Located in a safe address, in front of the 12th police department, it has been first noticed in journalist Antonio Maria (1921-1964) chronicles. After sisters Bete and Vera Afonso became responsible for the family business, in 2002, it went back again to the news report. It deserves. With clean bathrooms, thanks to women presence in society, it offers delicious appetizers, among them the divines “pataniscas de bacalhau” (per unit). The fish dishes are pretty yummy too. The portions are for two people, and they can be shrimp risotto, octopus rice and sole fillet with fries and rice. Rounds of Brahma’s draft beer (draft beer glass) or Original’s beer (600 ml bottle) completes the great program.

Until the 70s, the old hotel bar and the restaurant were a safe spot for all Rio de Janeiro’s  high society. Taking the lead there’s chef Marío Sérgio Celidônio, son of the notable José Hugo, since 2006, the food and drinks make the visit worth. The bar is at ground level. In hot nights, the hint is to choose a table on the balcony to enjoy the movement downtown (calçadão). Strawberry “caipirinhas” with cinnamon, tangerine with ginger and grapes with basil are a success. Among the beers, there’re the German Paulaner (500 ml bottle) and the black beer Xingu (long neck). In the menu there are delicious suggestions. Try the portion of risotto with herbs and parmesan muffins (twelve units). On Fridays and Saturdays nights the place becomes a disco.

The place, at the corner of Santa Clara and Cinco de Julho streets, have on its walls pictures of the old Copacabana and they’re already a good reason to visit it. In the menu there are made dishes, during the day, and usual appetizers, as the always present machaca (dried meat) with manioc and portions of “pastel”. The one with provolone and dried tomatoes is one of the most ordered. To drink there’s Brahma’s draft beer (300 ml) or one of the “many” forty liquors.

It’s a place where many great “choro”  and “samba” musicians, often,  get together. On Sundays, there’s “roda de samba”, the audience is big – people get together at the street, in front of the minimum bar. A lot of people go there and grab a beer – Petra and Itaipava cans – from the fridge. There are also many appetizers such as, portions of “bolinhos de bacalhau” (twelve units), “salaminho” and “quibes” (fifteen units). In the big corner of Nossa Senhora de Copacabana and Princesa Isabel Avenues, the place offers a big variety of snacks and appetizers. The decoration with chairs and armchairs with a crimson velvet cover holds your attention at first sight, but soon you’ll notice the waitresses passing by with boards full of “empadinhas” made right on time, made of shrimp or chicken. Either you can resist it or not, there are many other good things there too: portions of “lulas grelhadas” (grilled squids) with shoyu spice, “patinha de carangueijo” (crab legs) with “tártaro” spice and fried polenta with parmesan. The right address of good music in a smooth environment with a neat acoustic. On the small stage, which gained life itself in the back of the Modern Sound store, have passed plenty of important names, such as, Maria Rita, Ana Carolina, Lenine and Ivan Lins. On big presentation days you need to arrive early to catch one of the few places. There are plenty of appetizers. You can order the portion of “bolinho de grão de bico” (ten units), ordered with a cream of “grão de bico”, “picles” and Arabian bread, or “casquinha de siri”. To drink, a hint is “Amigo allegro” (imported vodka, pineapple juice, mint liquor and sugar). There are also beers: long neck, Bohemia, Heineken and Cerpa.

First opened by the Portuguese from Ilha da Madeira, it makes a lot of success with many appetizers since the times from Teatro Opinião, by the 60s, across the street. It doesn’t have appetizers like “testiculos de boi” and “joelho de porco” anymore, but still has a huge list of “salt“options. According to the employees there are seventy options. There’re not used to be cheap, but they’re worth the price. One of the place’s classics is the “rolmop”, the popular “Portuguese sushi”, twisted “sardinha marinada”. The octopus salad with vinaigrette and the “berinjela calabresa” are also delicious. To drink, a Brahma draft beer.

By the big variety of 15 and 18 years old scotch, it’s hard to believe that this is just another ‘dirty” place in Copacabana. You can find almost the whole Johnnie Walker line, starting with the Red, 8 years old, to Green. There are also: Logan (12 years old) and Dimple (15 years old), among others. The “aZip Codeipes” menu is simpler. It has great “pasteis” as the provolone one, and sandwiches of simple gastronomy, as an example the pork one. The beer has a good price for the area: Antartica, Skol and Bohemia and the Original.

As the name says, the strong part of this place is the snooker. There are eight official tables for customers, rent by hour. To respect the table cover, there are recommendations for beginners snooker classes, offered by the instructor Renato da Matta. Between one snooker and another, you can eat “frango a passarinho” and a fried “jilo” portion. In 600 ml bottles, the available beers are Antartica Original, Skol and Brahma. With a view to the beach and great live music, it’s also opened to people who are not registered in the hotel. Roland Villard, French chef of the well-known Le Pré Catelan, Sofitel restaurant, signs the menu. He created the “tapas (o trio)” with flavors that change day to day, board of cheese and the “surprise bread” with salad, fish and “poché” egg. The draft beer is Lokal (300 ml). Don’t forget to check the drinks menu. Two suggestions are the fresh kilimanjaro, two colored drink with vodka, peach liquor, orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine, and the Brazilian horse’s neck, a mixture of Bourbon, guarana and lemon cover.

Until last year the place was called The Office Sports Bar and was divided into two parts: one decorated with sports articles and great athletes’ posters and another with rock stars. The first section is over. The decoration was left, we can say, kitsch, with a room inside that has ceramics tiles, sofas U shaped in a crimson color, velvet chairs and photos inside frames from stars like Miles Davis, Body Dylan and Alicia Keys. Next to Peixoto’s neighborhood, this address with no luxury at all has been noticed in 2004, as a scenario for the soap opera Senhora do Destino. It was there that the character Nazare (actress Renata Sorrah) used to drink sometimes. Nowadays the place is also known as “Bar da Naza”. Besides the cheap brandy – Domeq or Dreher - there’s also Brahma’s draft beer (draft glass). Since it opened its doors in 2007, it became one great option of program in front of the beach – this year, according to the votes of Veja Rio magazine, it almost surprised the big champion Bar Urca. It has a filled agenda with events and an interactive menu, made by Chef Cassio Machado, the same from Copa Café. Right at the door, a waiter presents you one of the place’s specials: fresh oysters (unity). The others are the champagnes that can be consumed with mollusk. There are seven labels from different countries. From Chandon Reserve Brut, you can order a bottle or a cup. Another interesting appetizer is  “ovos de codorna poché”, with “ovas de peixe” and “azeite trufado”, served on a spoon (five units), and the “palito de polvo”.

The after-beach is one of the moments which the small bar, in the heart of the GLS point in Ipanema, seems smaller for so many people. From the draft beer faucet lots of draft glasses are filled. In 2002, when the place completed half century, the bar in Praia do Flamengo was bought by the “cearense” businessman Francisco Antonio Rodrigues Pinto, who had soon modified the whole room and the menu. This way, one of the most big pubs network was born in the city. Pasteis, such as the provolone with onion, are a success. Sometimes a waiter passes through the room with “empadas”, one of the high points of Belmore. Try the shrimp with catupiry one, it goes well with a Brahma’s draft beer (draft glass). The long menu has sandwiches of pork with pineapple and dried meat “escondidinho”.

After going out of business at the Downtown mall, the “center” of the beers has moved to a small store in Ipanema which has now more than 100 labels. It has a limited time to wok according to the place where it works and options of appetizers reduce to sixteen mini sausages, of four kinds, or a portion of Saint-Paulin cheese, French origin. Who cares? The fun is in choosing among the beers. If you have a doubt in which to pick, try the Hoegaarden (long neck), made of wheat, smooth and refreshing, or the Leffe Blonde (long Neck), or a Duvel (long neck), or the Chimay Blue (long neck), one of the seven world beers produced in a “trapista” monastery. In other words, make yourself home. The place must be opening a branch at Barra until the end of the year.

Jazz, chorinho, bossa nova and blues are the ones who guide the rhythm in the place, which has as a strong point, besides the proximity with the beach, a good musical program. On the second floor used to work the new Mistura Fina, but in the room at ground level there are concerts too, every day. From the kitchen comes out “casquinhas de siri” with parmesan and “frango a passarinho” with tropical fruits chutney. Smooth, the bar, almost at the corner with Vinicius de Moraes street, became a point of the female gay public. It has a menu of drinks in which there are “batidas de maracuja”, coconuts, strawberry, peach and peanuts, it also has the red mix, sort of a strawberry capipirinha with red fruits and Johnnie Walker Red Label scotch instead of vodka. Choosing what to drink, a good appetizer is the mix of ten meat, chicken and sausage “espetinhos”. The place also has fine made dishes, for example the steak tartar with strawberry “vinagrete”, and the buffet per weight served until 3:20 pm.

After opening three stores in 2007, the network promises to open still this year its new point, at Botafogo and Copacabana. The Ipanema’s branch is the only one that serves drinks made with the “artesanal draft beer” which gives name to the place, like the kir devassa. Most part of the people like the drinks themselves, which goes out in five versions: blonde, red-haired, black, Indian and brunette. In the menu there are a lot of funny words which gives name to the appetizers and dishes. The prices can be changed according to the branch. At Ipanema, the “carnuda” (fillet mignon with fried manioc and melted cheese, served on the board).

A place for rockers, people who want to listen or for those who want to play – independent bands interested in performing over there must take a queue that may last for five months. Live music happens on Fridays and Saturdays, on the second floor, and the ticket price may change according to the event. On the ground floor, the sound is at a DJs hands. Another registered mark of this place, this one in the menu, is the “tango draft beer”, made with “groselha”. For those who don´t like to change, there’s Brahma’s draft beer. Yes, yes, there was the place where Veloso worked, the bar where Vinicus and Tom saw Helo Pinheiro walking at the beach and had the idea of writing the song which gave the name to the place. That’s why the place became a tourist point and a “must stop” for the entire “sambistas”street – that won’t stop the music unless somebody put some money in their “pandeiros”. On the other hand, they offer a great Brazilian “picanha” (for three people) and the portions of “bolinho de bacalhau” (twelve units) Among the drinks, the lemon “caipirinha” are better than the draft beer glasses. One week after being opened, the place was already famous – all vip people. Everything there is very beautiful. The shiny floor in the aisle takes people to a room with walls made by bricks and comfortable leather armchairs. There are also two England flags with the colors from Italy and a beautiful bar. Once you’re there, make yourself ready for a menu where there’s a long neck from Cerpa or Bohemia. In the well made drink’s menu, a good option is the sour apple martini, with vodka, “xarope de maça verde” and soure mix. On the decoration, he didn’t come up with many new things – changed the wall color, from lime green to dark crimson. In the menu there’s more creativity. On the first floor, a colored panel from the “santo padroeiro” receives the orphan public form Jilo and from Devassa, neighbors who went out of business. Taking a glance at the menu, it’s hard to believe that this place is just a pub. Next to the pasteis, there’re temakis signed by chef Nao Hara and scalinatas (like a closed pizza). Try the pastel de queijo-minas curado (portion with six) or “frango caipira” with quiabo (portion with six). Among the temakis choose the shrimp with shiitake or the one with spicy tuna.

The name is the same from the Ipanema’s bar where Vinicius and Tom saw Helo Pinheiro walking on the beach. The Bar Veloso became Garota de Ipanema, but its owners opened this mystic version from the Leblon neighbor.  There’s a marble counter and an acoustic treatment on the roof. The menu combines with the environment. There’re “croquetes de mortadela” (R$ 17,00 twelve units) and “lula a dore” (R$ 25,00 the portion). But the most wanted is the “carne de sol with onions and bottle butter and manioc” (R$ 26,00 for three people). To drink, Brahma’s draft beer (R$ 4,60, the 350 ml).

With a view to the sea and a retro visual, the place is decorated with old objects. Opened in 1999, this modern place became a safe spot to people who cares for some tranquility. Among the drinks, the caipirubi (vodka, red fruits sugar and ice) is classic. From the most recent suggestions in the menu, you can try the refreshing aurora, with strawberries, gengibre, vodka, sugar, ice and maracuja). Another great hint are the mini lamb hamburgers with foie gras and teriyaki of red fruits and the  “burrito de avestruz” with jam pepper and guacamole. The mixed portion of bruschettas (queijo brie with pasta de abricó, shiitake with alecrim e parmesão, queijo de cabra with raw ham, mussarela de búfala and tomate seco and hortelã) are also pretty good.

Lead by Manoel Alves and his son Carlos, the point, next Jose Linhares Street, has earned fame with its caipivodcas. The cooler recently bought for wine shows that they’re willing to change the drink's menu commonly served in this kind of establishment at the sea shore. The drinks can be made with national or imported  vodka and are always made with a station fruit - not using its cover. In summer, one of the best selling is serigüela , that, besides of Absolut, can be made with the American Skyy, the French Belvedere and Grey Groose and the polish Wyborowa and Danska. To eat, the request is the delicious shrimp with catupiry (portion of fifteen units). Besides the “caipiras”, there are cans of beers  (Skol) and long neck (Bohemia e Stella Artois).

In the 80s, when it was at charge of the businessman Ricardo Amaral, the Gattopardo made its name at the Lagoa with its well made pizzas. After the brand was bought by the businessman Orlando Diniz, president of Fecomercio-RJ, the place reopened on the beginning of January as a “beer center” in the bohemian circuit of Rua Conde Bernadotte – where worked for some time the Welt Bier bar.  The main product of the new store is the line of “chopps artesanais”, made in a factory at Benfica. If you´re not quite sure of what to order among the three options in the menu, the customer may ask the waiter about the mainly differences among them or even ask to try them, with no extra costs. Refreshing and with a less fruited flavor, the draft beer – baptized as lager bossa – has 4,8% of alcohol and is a good option. To eat, you can ask the delicious portion of meat “croquetes” (R$ 15,00), with a smooth stuff and a crack cover. Well mixed, the bean’s broth (R$ 5,00) in a mud mug are with bacon cubes. The decoration of the small room shows a colored counter, cooper lamps which reminds draft beer serpentines and shiny tiles on the floor.
